Since the prehistoric times man has produced tools and appliances to help him do the ordinary daily tasks. With time his skills and technological level increased and his products became more complicated and reliable. When the first civilizations were born humans were capable of mass production of various products and used some forms of standardization to help him keep quality and form of each product at the same level. Today technological level increased greatly from the time of those ancient civilizations but principles remained the same. There is strong connection between successful production and effort to keep high level of quality of the produced parts. With appearance of CNC machine it became possible to produce parts with very high level of accuracy and as a result there was a need to have tools on hand to measure those values. Coordinate measuring machines were made to fill that role. This graduation work is giving an overview of the role of the coordinated measuring machines in modern production plants. First part of the paper pointed out the importance of Metrology and how its achievements are used in the actual production process with short insight to the history of Metrology. Second part of the paper concentrated on the coordinated measuring machines itself and role they fill in production today. Experimental part of the paper is based on the data acquired from the measuring two similar parts. Parts were put on the coordinated measuring machine and measured with detail explanation following for each of the steps taken. Results of the measuring process are stored inside the measuring protocols and with comment. Measuring of the parts took place inside the production plan of the company Harbug-Freudenberger Belišće who is also the owner of the documentation used to write this paper.
