Additive manufacturing has been developing for over 25 years, or from late '80s to be precise. Many different varieties of additive technologies were developed and each of those has a specific application in different areas of use. The main purpose of these technologies is production of 3D objects layer after layer by adding the material, unlike the classical production in which the material is removed from the object to create the wanted design. Introduction of this paper consist brief description of the history of additive technologies and the development of some. The second chapter describes what additive manufacturing really is and it tells us more about their use in various industries, furthermore it states the most important technologies. Third chapter describes some of the most used polymer materials, which are used in the additive manufacturing. In the fourth chapter, there is a detail description of development of 3D printing and the process of making prototypes by using that technology (3D printing). Moreover, it states the materials that are used in this technology, pros and cons of the technology and its application. The fifth and final chapter compares 3DP with some other additive technologies based on the used materials, surface roughness and the density of products. Pictures that show objects produced by using the technologies stated above are added at the end.
